Lizzie McGuire was the offbeat, incredibly funny Disney Channel television series that aired from 2001 to 2004. The show was based upon the life and times of an average middle schooler named Elizabeth Brook McGuire a/k/a Lizzie McGuire who was played by Hillary Duff. Like all 7th and 8th graders, Lizzie was a self-conscious student who was worried about every day things. Things Lizzie McGuire worried about included: what clothes were in style; how to act so Ethan Craft might notice her; how to deal with Kate and the cheerleaders who didn’t seem to like her very much; and how to be a good friend to Gordo and Miranda, her best friends. Also included in the television series was Animated Lizzie who was a visual interpretation of Lizzie McGuire’s conscience and inner thoughts.
Gordo was Lizzie’s best friend since they were one day old. He had a complete and total crush on her that, of course Lizzie McGuire never even noticed. He was kind of the sarcastic one-liners and a lot of good advice. Miranda was the rebel of the threesome always challenging those she felt were doing wrong. Lizzie was always the one who had Miranda’s back.
The series storyline was based upon the middle school adventures, and sometimes misadventures, of Lizzie, Gordo and Miranda. The show was cutting edge in that it not only dealt with topics of crazy teachers, embarrassing parents or bullies in the schoolyard; but, it also took on some really strong and timely topics like anorexia nervosa and depression. Bottom line is, preteen girls love Lizzie McGuire and that makes her a great theme idea for a party. With books, mangas and dolls still being produced and merchandised, Lizzie McGuire is still a living force within the pre-teen communities. Her music, her style and her good spirit seems to keep girls looking to her for advice on how to be cool and have a fun time.
